A Night of Venetian Grandeur at The Plaza Hotel
On a recent Friday evening, The Plaza Hotel in New York City became a vibrant canvas for Venetian extravagance during the annual Save Venice Ball. As dusk settled, a parade of elegantly dressed guests, adorned in sparkling sequins, lustrous satins, sharp tuxedos, and sweeping ball gowns, began to arrive, each concealed behind an intricate masquerade mask. By 7:30 p.m., the hotel buzzed with an atmosphere reminiscent of a celestial Venetian dream.
The reception commenced with attendees mingling over Champagne and artisanal cocktails, surrounded by delicate pastel floral arrangements and the soft glow of flickering candlelight, all beneath the shimmering brilliance of chandeliers. Notable figures such as actresses Amy Jackson Westwick and Kate Mara posed for photographers, while content creator Becca Bloom made a grand entrance in a floor-sweeping couture gown. Designer Cynthia Rowley, known for her distinctive style, added a unique touch to her Venetian-inspired ensemble of a sequined skirt, crisp white shirt, and a moon-and-star headpiece, completing her look with silver cat-eye sunglasses.
As the evening progressed, guests ascended to the dining area, their steps accompanied by the mesmerizing sight of a pristine night sky projected overhead. Event designer Bronson van Wyck of Van Wyck & Van Wyck meticulously crafted the ambiance, transforming the Grand Ballroom to align with the evening's theme, 'Celestial Serenissima'. The space was adorned with twinkling constellations, interwoven Venetian motifs, and ethereal cosmic lighting, creating a truly enchanting setting.
Over 450 guests gathered for a lavish dinner featuring tuna tartare, a crisp radish salad, succulent steak, and creamy risotto, with every detail meticulously planned to ensure an indulgent experience. Before dessert, Save Venice board members Adelina Wong Ettelson and Alexandra Lind Rose introduced the esteemed art curator, collector, and model Racquel Chevremont. Tasked with judging the evening's most impressive masks, she awarded prizes to Patricia Zajacova, Bach Mai, and Lisa Chambers for their exceptional efforts.
The night culminated with DJ Olivier Meiji spinning a lively mix of old-school tracks. The historic walls of The Plaza resonated with the infectious rhythm of "Mama Mia," as the formal proceedings seamlessly transitioned into a joyous and spirited celebration, echoing the vibrant spirit of Venice.
The Save Venice Ball serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of cultural preservation and the enchanting allure of Italian heritage. It highlights how collective effort and a shared passion can bring together diverse individuals to support a noble cause, creating a memorable experience that transcends geographical boundaries.
