Final Trailer for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Unveils New Details

by : Amy Hennig

Arc System Works has launched the definitive trailer for its eagerly awaited fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, just before its August 6 release. The video emphasizes the central premise of the story mode, where the Champion of the Universe orchestrates a grand tournament to decide the fate of Earth. Key features previously disclosed are highlighted once more, such as a narrative penned by renowned comic author Kieron Gillen, celebrated for works like Once & Future and Die, and a comprehensive lineup of 20 distinct playable characters.

The trailer offers a more detailed look at Deadpool, who delivers a series of impressive fourth-wall-breaking remarks, humorously noting how the four-versus-four combat system fills the screen with characters. At one juncture, he performs a power-up pose reminiscent of Cell's iconic introduction in Arc System Works' own Dragon Ball FighterZ. Additionally, a new feature called Battle Arcadia is showcased, appearing to be a party-game-style side mode, drawing parallels to Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising's Grand Bruise. Overall, the trailer strongly showcases the game's striking visual presentation, which skillfully merges comic book and anime artistic styles.

This trailer release follows the beta weekend for Marvel Tokon, which elicited mixed reactions from the fighting game community. On a positive note, the game received almost universal acclaim for its fluid animation, captivating soundtrack, and overall aesthetic. Arc System Works' portrayal of Magik was particularly well-received, making her the most frequently chosen character among the 16 available fighters during the test. Many participants also commended the unique abilities of the diverse roster.

However, the PC version of the game encountered significant technical issues. It performed poorly even on robust machines, leading to problems with online play. Beyond frame rate inconsistencies, some players found the combat to feel sluggish. Character movement and attacks were noticeably slow, a contrast to the typically faster pace of most tag-based fighting games. Although Arc System Works has pledged to resolve these issues with the PC port, the limited time before its release next week presents a considerable challenge.

The game's development team has a brief window to address the reported issues, especially concerning the PC performance, before the official launch. The dedication to improving the game based on player feedback demonstrates a commitment to quality and a desire to deliver an exceptional gaming experience for all players. This proactive approach, coupled with the creative integration of comic and anime aesthetics, positions Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls as a title with significant potential to captivate and engage a broad audience of fighting game enthusiasts.
