Gisele Bündchen Did Not Return for "The Devil Wears Prada 2"

by : Guillermo del Toro

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen, who made a memorable appearance in the original film "The Devil Wears Prada," did not reprise her role in the much-anticipated sequel, despite an invitation from director David Frankel. This news follows a previous announcement that fellow original cast member Adrian Grenier would also not be returning. Frankel explained to Entertainment Weekly that Bündchen's absence was primarily due to scheduling difficulties, as she was pregnant during the filming period last summer. Bündchen is expecting her first child with Joachim Valente in February 2025, which made her participation impossible.

Frankel noted that Bündchen was the only former cast member who declined an offer to return for the sequel. Other actors from the first film, including Simon Baker, Rich Sommer, Daniel Sunjata, Rebecca Mader, and Stéphanie Szostak, also do not appear in the new movie. However, the sequel will feature the return of Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, alongside cameos from personalities like Heidi Klum and pop star Lady Gaga, who also contributed to the soundtrack. Bündchen had previously participated in a 15th-anniversary reunion interview for "The Devil Wears Prada" in 2021, where she shared her positive reflections on the film and its inspiration, Anna Wintour.

The return of "The Devil Wears Prada" for a sequel, even with some notable absences, highlights the enduring popularity and cultural impact of the original. Despite the challenges in bringing back every beloved character, the inclusion of new talent and the return of key figures promise to deliver an engaging continuation of the story. The film serves as a testament to the collaborative spirit of filmmaking, adapting and evolving while striving to honor its roots and satisfy its dedicated audience.
