“The Shop” Undergoes a Transformative Shift with New Leadership and Enhanced Format
Commencing on Monday, June 22, the acclaimed series “The Shop” will relaunch with actor-rapper Travis Bennett and producer Steelo Brim at the helm, succeeding basketball icon LeBron James and entrepreneur Maverick Carter. This announcement, made by Fulwell Entertainment on a recent Monday, signifies a pivotal moment for the show. Insiders reveal that James and Carter personally selected Bennett and Brim, affirming their confidence in the new hosts to steer the program forward. Maverick Carter, a co-CEO of Fulwell Entertainment, will continue to be involved with the show's production and interact with the new hosting team.
The reimagined series will uphold its signature barbershop setting and retain its characteristic conversational style. However, the move to a weekly schedule will facilitate more profound and personal interactions. Each episode will now feature Bennett and Brim engaging with two guests, delving into the personal stories that shape cultural discourse and major headlines. The producers at Fulwell have indicated that this refreshed season will introduce innovative segments and refined formats, ensuring “The Shop” remains a leading platform where prominent figures from the realms of sports, music, and entertainment can openly share their authentic perspectives.
The premiere episode of this exciting new season is slated to host television personality Jasper Dolphin, known for his work on “Odd Future” and “Jackass,” alongside actor Melvin Gregg, recognized for his roles in “Fight Night: Million Dollar Heist” and “Snowfall.”
“The Shop,” originally conceived by Paul Rivera and Randy Mims, first aired on HBO in 2018 before transitioning to YouTube. Steelo Brim expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “As a fan of ‘The Shop,’ joining the legacy established by LeBron, Maverick, Paul, and Randy is truly remarkable. I am eager to contribute fresh viewpoints to the series and for the audience to connect with us; we form an excellent partnership.”
Travis Bennett echoed this sentiment, adding, “Being a viewer of ‘The Shop,’ it’s incredible to become part of something I admire. I deeply value diverse perspectives, as they are unique to each individual. Sharing, absorbing, and acknowledging these viewpoints is crucial, and I believe ‘The Shop’ offers an unparalleled platform for this. I’m also thrilled to reveal more of my personality. While acting has allowed me to portray characters akin to myself, I aspire for people to know me on a personal level, and this weekly format is ideal for achieving that.”
Further enhancing its visibility, “The Shop” plans to feature its new hosts at the Cannes Lions for a special conversation on June 24. Additionally, a historic live taping, the first of its kind for the show, is scheduled for July 17 at Fanatics Fest in New York City's Javits Center, where Bennett and Brim will engage in a discussion with LeBron James and Maverick Carter.
The production of “The Shop” (also known as “The Shop: Uninterrupted”) is managed by Fulwell’s Uninterrupted division. The executive production team includes James, Carter, Bennett, Brim, and Ben Turner, with Courtney Whitaker serving as co-executive producer and Karus Nelson as the showrunner.
The evolution of “The Shop” reflects a dynamic response to the changing media landscape, blending established traditions with innovative approaches to storytelling. By introducing new hosts and a weekly format, the series aims to deepen its engagement with audiences and continue its legacy as a forum for impactful dialogue. This strategic shift not only revitalizes the show but also offers a fresh stage for emerging voices to connect with viewers on a more personal and consistent basis, promising a captivating new season filled with authentic and thought-provoking exchanges.
