Fortnite, in collaboration with the Star Wars universe, has launched three innovative new islands, significantly expanding the gameplay experience for its global audience. These additions, revealed on April 1st, 2026, were created using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fortnite Creative tools. They offer players unprecedented opportunities to engage with beloved Star Wars characters, vehicles, and iconic locations, marking a pivotal moment in the integration of these two massive franchises. From large-scale player-versus-player battles to a terrifying horror game featuring Darth Vader, and even a droid customization simulator, the new content promises diverse and immersive adventures for all.

The announcement on April 1st was no jest, as Fortnite officially revealed its initiative to allow developers to craft Star Wars-inspired content within the game's creative modes. Commencing May 1st, developers gained access to an extensive library of assets, including characters, templates, gameplay features, locations, vehicles, and weaponry from previous Fortnite Battle Royale seasons. This strategic move empowers creators to merge and modify these elements, fostering the development of unique Star Wars experiences for the player community to explore.

Epic Games, in conjunction with Disney, offered an exclusive preview of three initial islands in Los Angeles. These included 'Galactic Siege,' 'Droid Tycoon,' and 'Escape Vader,' all meticulously designed with the new 'Star Wars x UEFN' developer toolkit. These introductory islands serve as a showcase, demonstrating the vast creative potential available to players. Sean Shoptaw, Executive VP of Disney Games and Digital Entertainment, emphasized the enduring appeal of the Star Wars franchise and the excitement surrounding new narrative developments and interactive experiences. He highlighted the significant momentum in gaming, streaming, and immersive content, underscoring that this collaboration merely scratches the surface of future possibilities.

Andre Balta, Senior Director of Game Development at Fortnite, during the special preview event, articulated how Star Wars has deeply permeated Fortnite. He noted that the rich array of assets, including vehicles and weapons, has been made accessible to the Fortnite development community. Balta enthusiastically stated that every game developer harbors a unique Star Wars narrative they aspire to tell, and now, eligible creators can construct their own Star Wars games directly within Fortnite. He further praised the collaborative spirit of Disney and Lucasfilm, noting their developer-centric approach and their willingness to provide creators with an ultimate Star Wars toolkit, largely unburdened by stringent lore or brand regulations.

The three starter islands introduce distinct gameplay styles. 'Star Wars: Galactic Siege,' developed by JOGO Studios, thrusts players into large-scale 10v10 class-based battles on iconic Star Wars planets, pitting the Empire against the Rebels in a fight for control points. 'Star Wars: Escape Vader,' crafted by Beyond Creative, offers a four-player cooperative horror experience. Players infiltrate a derelict Star Destroyer, tasked with recovering intelligence while relentlessly hunted by Darth Vader. This module emphasizes survival, requiring players to utilize their environment and teamwork to evade the Sith Lord. Lastly, 'Star Wars: Droid Tycoon,' from FOAD (Fear of a Dawn), allows players to construct and customize droids using authentic blueprints, manage their workshops, and unlock rare components and special missions. This game celebrates the often-overlooked mechanical backbone of the Star Wars universe, with over 40 droid types available for creation and more planned for future updates.

This groundbreaking integration showcases a new chapter in interactive entertainment, allowing fans to not only play within the Star Wars universe but also actively shape and expand it through creative development. The diverse offerings, from intense combat to strategic management and thrilling horror, cater to a broad spectrum of gaming preferences, ensuring that the Force is truly with every player in Fortnite's ever-evolving galaxy.
