Esteemed Showrunner Andrea Newman Bids Farewell to "Chicago Fire"; Victor Teran Takes the Helm for Season 15

In a notable development for the long-running NBC series "Chicago Fire," veteran showrunner Andrea Newman is officially stepping down from her position. Her departure, confirmed on April 24, 2026, ushers in a new era for the beloved drama as Victor Teran, formerly a co-executive producer, ascends to the role of executive producer and showrunner for the much-anticipated 15th season.

Newman's tenure with "Chicago Fire" spans an impressive 14 years, having first joined the production in its inaugural season in 2012 as a writer and co-executive producer. Her dedication and talent saw her rise steadily through the ranks, culminating in her leadership as co-showrunner in 2021 and eventually taking sole charge in 2023. Reflecting on her extensive time with the series, Newman shared her profound appreciation: "Working at 'Chicago Fire,' with the absolute best cast and crew in the business, has been the highlight of my career. Like so many others, I was inspired to get into TV writing because of Dick, so what a thrill it's been to work with him and the amazing Wolf team of Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill and Anastasia Puglisi. I'm so grateful to them, Derek Haas and the NBC and Universal execs who have been so supportive of the show all along the way. After 14 years, you really do become a family and working with this group will always feel like home."

Peter Jankowski, an executive producer for the series, conveyed the team's sentiments regarding Newman's exit: "We're sad to say goodbye to Andrea. She's been at the center of the heart and soul of 'Chicago Fire' since the beginning and the show thrived under her watch. We're grateful for her commitment to the development of the next generation and know the show will be in great hands with Victor taking the reins."

Victor Teran's journey with "Chicago Fire" began in its 10th season. Before joining the acclaimed show, Teran held the position of vice president of physical production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. His diverse background also includes writing, directing, and producing independent films, such as the Sundance Dramatic Competition selection "Filly Brown," featuring Gina Rodriguez and Edward James Olmos, and the SXSW Competition film "Snap." Teran is represented by Verve.

This leadership change comes on the heels of all three One Chicago series—"Chicago Fire," "Chicago P.D.," and "Chicago Med"—receiving renewals in March. These shows consistently maintain strong viewership, anchoring NBC's Wednesday night programming block with their back-to-back broadcasts.

The news of Newman's departure was initially reported by Deadline.
